About me: Aruna was born in 1963 in a small rural village, Gowripatnam, Andhra Pradesh, India.  At the young age of 19, she married Viswanath Chandrala whilst still studying her degree in St Theressa’s College in Eluru, Andhra Pradesh.  In 1982 she migrated with her husband to New Zealand where she spent the next four years.  In New Zealand, she began participating in community activities such as local
fund raising and cultural programs.  Her first child, Shalini was born in Christchurch and has grown to
become a qualified chartered accountant. With her young family Aruna then migrated to Australia in
1986 and settled in Sydney.  This is where her second child, Pavan was born. He is a qualified Doctor
who is specialising in cardiology.

Aruna was instrumental in gathering the Telugu community and organising functions and cultural
activities. This was integral in the formation of Telugu community groups and also lead her into
participation in broader community organisations.  She has since dedicated her life to voluntary
work for the Indian community.  This passion for community service was supported by her
businessman husband, who owns BOCAR, an engineering and manufacturing company in Sydney.
